I successfully led a team of two other C.S. students to develop a virtual reality video game using C#, Unity3D, and the HTC Vive. I allocated tasks to meet our development milestones and overall goal of a playable demo within 3 months’ time. The project's vision was to convert Dungeons & Dragons into a virtual reality experience that retains the complex, formulaic mechanics of the tabletop game and system. I am very happy with the work we accomplished, and I continue to extend this project personally. Eventually, I hope to share an official release.
When I first realized the possibility of creating a software application that would help me run my Dungeons & Dragons games, I couldn't wait to get started. The D&D rulebooks contain dozens of nested tables used for randomly generating dungeons, enemies, items, and traps. The process involves rolling dice (often over and over) and writing down the results after each roll. This is tedious and time-consuming, and especially encumbersome in the middle of a game session! My application, Dungeon Master Tools 3.5e, converts these tables into interactive, digital equivalents that can be used in just a few simple clicks of the mouse; saving me plenty of time when planning for and running D&D game sessions.
